What do I wear?

This is the most common question I get.  First and foremost, COLOR!  Your images will burst with energy with colorful attire.  Solids are great, but don’t be afraid to incorporate patterns.  I do advise steering clear of bulky plaids, though.  If you’re a lumberjack, by all means, bring on the plaids.  Otherwise, it doesn’t photograph very well.  Secondly, ACCESSORIZE!  Brings scarves, long necklaces, cool hats, funky headbands, headscarves, wedge heels, cowboy boots, your favorite umbrella or anything that will make a statement.  This kind of stuff really helps with posing.  Instead of a hand on a hip in every picture, we can have you doodling with your scarf or confidently tipping your hat.  You can’t possibly bring too much when it comes to accessories, so when you show up with a suitcase full of cool junk, I’ll literally jump for joy.  Joy, I tell ya.

So, you’re a mom, trying to dress a bunch of wild kids and a reluctant husband for a family photo.   Stressed much?  Oh, I know you are.  Please, don’t stress!  Let me ask you, when you go out to a family dinner at a nice restaurant or a wedding or to church, do you tell everyone to wear blue or red or black?  Maybe you do…but most people don’t…and you still look like an adorable, little family that loves each other more than words can express…even without matching clothing.  The same goes for a family portrait.  Go to everyone’s closet and pick out the cutest outfit they have, have them put it on and go with it.  If your oldest daughter likes dresses, find her most fun dress or go buy her a fun, new dress!  If your youngest daughter prefers comfy shorts and tops, find her something that she’ll be comfy in and still look cute.  I’m not saying that you should let your kids come to a session with dirty, wrinkled clothing, but I am saying that clothing should represent the individual.  Your sassy teenage daughter or your picky toddler will not be happy in clothing they hate…and it will show in the pictures.  So, embrace the individuality of your family and go with it.  I promise that in 30 years, you won’t care what everyone wore in your family picture.  You’ll just be happy that you were there…together…an adorable, little family that still loves each other more than words can express.  That’s what really counts, isn’t it?
